Our self-build community at WELLBANK PARK will already have a fabulous setting to live – between the coastline and fells of the stunning Lake District National Park.  However, closer to home, exciting landscaping plans are coming together for the environment around the development site itself.

WELLBANK’s site co-owner Janet Nuttall and Business Development Manager Trudy Harrison met this week with Kendall-based Landscape Architect Tom Hinson of Hinson Garden Design. Around the site and at the Visitor Pod, the team discussed their ambitious plans for the large communal spaces that surround the housing plots.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

Inspired by the nearby coastal landscape and Black Combe fell, the aim is to create a series of shared spaces that will become a haven for pollinators and where wildlife habitats can thrive. With biodiversity and our homeowners’ well-being key to the design plans, they talked through ideas for planting, the lit pathways that traverse the development, the ponds, swales and even a sculptural feature that will reflect the heritage of the site.  An important part of the brief was to consider how the WELLBANK community will use their immediate outside environment to move around, enjoy and spend time in these spaces.

The final design will take its lead from the inspiring and beautiful Knepp Estate as shown in some of the images shown here. Knepp is a trailblazing 3,500-acre rewilding project in West Sussux that incorporates the textures and movement seen on the coastal margins of New Zealand.

Tom and Michael Hinson – Hinson Garden Design

Having moved back from London to Cumbria, garden designer Tom Hinson works with clients across the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire, with an ethos for creating spaces that build a strong connection between people and the landscape around them.

For WELLBANK PARK, while still at the concept stage, we are feeling very excited about creating a beautiful living landscape for our homeowners. Working in collaboration with Cumbria Wildflowers, the landscaping work is expected to be completed through Spring / Summer of next year. From there, we look forward to seeing it evolve and grow into a biodiverse-rich living environment.
